About Dishwalking
Dishwalking is a slowly growing list, recording Taiwan's small, worth-a-detour everyday eateries. It's not about chasing social-media hype, and a shop doesn't have to be old — what matters is that what they make is solid and honest.
Three criteria for choosing a shop
- A signature, and the skill to back it: what they make has a clear point of view and isn't careless.
- Everyday prices: centered on “I'd eat this on a weekday” prices, not special-occasion restaurants.
- A reasonable setting: no major issues with seating, hygiene, or service — a comfortable meal.
About accuracy
All information (address, hours, prices) is based on actual visits or the shop's own announcements, but small shops change often, so we recommend confirming before you go.
Where the data comes from
So you can judge how far to trust what's here, this is where each kind of information comes from and how it was put together.
- Shop basics: address, phone, opening hours, and coordinates come from Google Maps, as a snapshot taken when the shop was added. Small shops change their hours often enough that it's worth confirming before you go.
- Ratings and reviews: star ratings and review counts come from Google, as of when the shop was added. Quoted reviews are reproduced verbatim, never rewritten, and we don't cherry-pick the positive ones — critical reviews stay in too.
- Photos: contributed by Google Maps users, not shot by this site.
- Menus and prices: transcribed by hand, item by item, from photos of the shop's own menu board or order slip. Items and figures that aren't legible are skipped rather than guessed. Prices change quickly, so in-store pricing always takes precedence.
- Awards: cross-referenced against lists published by the Michelin Guide, "500 Bowls," and similar bodies. Years and editions follow the official announcements.
- Write-ups: written from the sources above plus Google reviews, with AI assistance. We haven't eaten at every shop, so the write-ups organize other people's dining experiences rather than representing our own first-hand verdict — for genuine first-hand opinion, read the Google reviews on each shop's page.
