What people say
Google 4.1 stars · 4,646 reviews
范記金之園草袋飯 (main store), in Taichung's Central District, was selected for the “500 Bowls” Taiwanese street-food awards in 2024 and earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand nod in 2025.
The signature straw-bag rice comes with miso soup; crispy pork ribs, crispy chicken leg, sha-cha beef, and black-bean fish slices are all NT$160, à-la-carte mains NT$135, and stir-fried greens NT$60. Opinions split: some regulars find the value ordinary and the rice hard; but many praise the well-judged kai-lan and how the sha-cha beef pairs with rice, calling the setting clean and the food tasty.
Closed Thursdays; otherwise open 11am to 7:30pm.
