祥嘉義米糕 sits on Hezuo Street in Taichung's South District, its sign reading “founded in 1984,” a simple menu of just Chiayi mi-gao, pork balls, and braised egg. The mi-gao is distinct-grained, drizzled with savory minced pork and paired with cucumber to cut the richness, coming with a bowl of bonito soup — the shop happy to refill it. One diner said “the mi-gao is distinct-grained, drizzled with savory minced pork and served with cucumber for a less-cloying whole, a few spoons of garlic paste lift it further, and with the fluffy-yolked braised egg and the springy, flavorful braised pork ball it delivers every element of Chiayi mi-gao.”
A regular said “the mi-gao's just as tasty, the pork balls just as springy,” though parking nearby is hard, so come by scooter; one diner gave a lower review, saying “I came for the mi-gao and ended up finding the mi-gao wasn't the standout,” so the experience varies by person.
