西施肉圓 sits on Xinyi Road in Puli Township, Nantou, its main draw white-sauce hind-leg-and-bamboo-shoot ba-wan, the skin thin and springy, the filling richly garlic-fragrant, best with a clear soup on the side. One diner said “a well-balanced skin-to-meat ratio, the meat not dry, with local character, its fame well-earned,” buy ten and get one free.

The shop also sells fried-pork-rib soup, though reviews vary a bit — one diner noted “the ba-wan is springy and tasty, the fried-pork-rib soup a touch worse, and the setting is on the dim side,” but added “the courteous, generous owner makes it worth a visit,” the service generally good.
