江記東門豆花

Peanut douhua and nothing else — the sugar syrup hand-cooked into a thick paste.

Signature dishes

An old douhua (tofu pudding) stall opened in 1976, with just one thing on the menu: peanut douhua. The syrup is hand-cooked from raw sugar into a thick paste and ladled over silky tofu pudding and peanuts simmered until soft — devotees split between hot and cold.

The owner traveled to Hsinchu to learn the craft years ago, then worked out this syrup's proportions on his own. Simple as it looks, it has no rival. Closed Mondays and Thursdays.
