A wa-gui specialist in a Sanmin alley — NT$40 a bowl, meat hidden at the bottom, plain rice fragrance that never tires.

鹽埕埔碗粿雄 specializes in one thing: wa-gui (savory rice pudding), NT$40 a bowl. One diner called it “firm and springy, the meat generous,” another “plain and unadorned, looks ordinary on top but never tires you — you'll order another before you know it”; the meat is hidden at the bottom, tender, eaten with dried radish for savory crunch. The sauce leans light, and you can ask for extra dried radish, minced garlic, or chili sauce to adjust.

A family-run stall; diners specially note “the auntie is as kind as ever, greeting while she washes,” “the young lady's voice is lovely, gentle and attentive,” and “the little brother is well-behaved, restocking the steamers when free,” calling it “a warm, caring shop with the artisan spirit of doing just one thing.”
