傳祥園素食麵館 sits on Darong West Street in Taichung's Xitun District, not far from Taichung City Hall, a vegetarian house of northern-Chinese noodles. The signature hand-pulled knife-cut noodles are broad and chewy, the mu-shu fried noodles and three-delicacy fried noodles full of wok-fire; cat's-ear pasta is a northern rarity here, stir-fried grain by distinct grain with real bite. Beyond noodles, stir-fries like Xiangyuan fried rice, three-cup king oyster mushroom, three-cup tofu, and sesame-oil monkey-head mushroom are popular too, with hearty small bites like steamed dumplings and silver-thread rolls. One diner said “food comes fast, tasty and good, a nice place for a group meal,” another recommending “a good spot for vegetarians, near Taichung City Hall.”
The place is homey, fit for ordering shared dishes with friends or family; but some diners note the fried rice and radish omelette occasionally come out a bit burnt, so keep that in mind. It runs two services (11:00am–2:00 and 5:00–8:00pm), closed Wednesdays.
